Five of our films made it into the 42nd Northwest Filmmakers’ Festival

It’s one of our favorite times of the year, and not just because eggnog is back in the cooler at New Seasons; the Northwest Filmmakers’ Festival starts this week! Showcasing the incredible talent who call the PNW home, the Festival stretches from November 12th thru the 18th. There are too many great films to name, but here are five that Digital One worked on. Arresting Power (Documentary): Taking a hard look at police violence and systemic racism in Portland, this film explores alternative strategies to gain community safety without unneeded violence. Mix by Ryan Mauk.

Birds of Neptune (Narrative): Sisters Mona and Rachel are trying to forget a dark past, but are faced with the constant reminders surrounding them in their childhood home. When Rachel brings home a new lover, they both watch as the truth is forced to the surface and tension builds. Dialog/SFX by Reed Harvey, Mix by Ryan Mauk.

The Curio (Narrative): Weaving documentary and narrative elements, Dicky Dahl uses his real-life ex-wife, brothers and parents to tell the story of the collapse of a marriage and asks the painful but necessary question: “what next?” Dialog/SFX by Ryan Mauk, Mix by Eric Stolberg.

Voyagers Without Trace (Documentary): Filmmaker Ian McCluskey sets out to search the wake left by a trio of french kayakers in 1938 on the Green and Colorado rivers. What he finds is a treasure-trove of old footage, wonderful stories and adventure. SFX by Reed Harvey, Sound Design and Mix by Eric Stolberg.

The Way We Talk (Documentary): Narrated by director Michael Turner, this introspective film takes a personal look at the realities of stuttering. Michael makes himself vulnerable and finds solace in a community united by a common struggle. Mixed by Reed Harvey.
