Here in Portland, the crisis of homelessness is visible every day. The topic is persistently on our minds at Digital One, and our conversation has gone from wondering what we could do to working on ways we can help. Last year, we started a month-long giving campaign in support of Transition Projects.
We wanted to do more than just give money, so last September we joined in volunteering for the Portland Veterans Stand Down, spending a day with Veterans who are either experiencing or at risk of homelessness. It was an opportunity to get to know our neighbors a little better, and it gave us a deeper understanding of how Transition Projects serves this community, strengthening our bond with this organization and those they serve.
According to Kelsey, Dig1’s newest staffer, “I didn’t fully understand what I was getting myself into. I felt a little nervous at first…but I came away with a newfound love and patience for the people I’ve walked past before. It was eye-opening, and I am grateful I got the opportunity to give back to the community firsthand.”
This holiday brings another opportunity to help provide housing to Portland’s most vulnerable residents. By booking your projects with us in December, you are partnering with Digital One as we again donate 5% from our services to Transition Projects.
How do these donations help?
$250 Covers the cost of a Move-In Kit for a person who is ready to enter housing and who needs the basics to make an apartment a home.
$100 Washes and dries 100 loads of laundry for people sleeping outside.
$50 Replaces a lost ID and birth certificate or covers an application fee for a family’s new home.
$25 Provides 25 people sleeping outside a hot shower and hygiene items in the Transition Projects Resource Center.
