Nike Freestyle Project

We may hail from different parts of the country, but now that we all call Portland our home, we rep our Nikes proud. The company has an unparalleled spirit of innovation and swag and it’s magic when they channel that energy into doing good for the community.

Nike’s Freestyle collection is a collab between Nike and Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. Six youthful patients are chosen every year to work with Nike designers to create their own take on Nike classics such as Jordans and Frees. For this past 2014 collection, those as young as eight painted their hopes and dreams onto the apparel and shoes that Nike designers rushed to bring to life.

Some of these young designers have created the freshest designs and some kicks are often the most coveted of the year. All proceeds from the collection go to the hospital and the 2013 collection raised $2.7 million, for a total of $9 million since the creation of the collection in 2004.

The true heroes of this project are these incredible kids and their resilient attitudes to overcome what has been handed to them. We hope that this good thing keeps runnin’ and Nike gets to put out more fresh kicks designed by the children, for the children.

We have had the incredible honor of lending a hand with this cause. For the past three years, we’ve helped patients of the Doernbecher Children’s Hospital share their story. Can’t wait to meet 2015’s lineup of Freestyle contributors and see what designs they come up with!
