2014 MasterCraft ProStar: HISTORY IS HISTORY

Since a handful of us here at Dig1 are from the Midwest the sound of waterskis, slalom courses, and speed boats are forever ingrained in our memories. Funny enough, it also gave us a leg up when creating the sound design for this riveting glimpse at the new 2014 MasterCraft ProStar in “Mission 04: HISTORY IS HISTORY”.
This one was just a little bit different. The challenge, as put to us by Nemo and Bump Films, was to make the three minute piece connect with the excitement of waterskiing using only sound design and awesome MasterCraft boat sounds. To accomplish this, Chip Drone combined stellar location audio and precise sound design to create a multidimensional look at the 2014 ProStar. Chip focused on developing a layered drone, built like an onion that revealed a slightly different audioscape as individual layers were peeled back. When you witness ski jumping and slalom skiing in all their glory, you’ll quickly notice that they don’t sound exactly alike. “Mission 04: HISTORY IS HISTORY” is no exception, even if it was shot in Phantom slow motion incredibleness at roughly a zillion frames per second.

In an effort to capture the most authentic boat sounds possible, Dig1 worked with Bump Films before the shoot to determine the best way to go about capturing location audio that was fitting of the beast it would represent.
Low and behold the whole piece worked, thanks to the geniuses at Nemo Design and Bump Films. See for yourself:
